  • INS Are We Activists or Advocates

This one for us is not tough but it could be. People or organizations these days can fit into either group with many being advocates. Let’s read the 2 definitions.

Activist:  A person who campaigns and protests to bring about political or social change

Advocate:  A person who publicly supports or recommends a particular cause or policy

With laws changing in 2022, the way you protest has brought change to some groups. But it does not seem to affect the Environmental sector. The 70s brought some strong activist groups such as CND, Greenpeace, and the protests at Greenham Common (CND BASED). For those of you that don’t know any of these, google them they are interesting reading.

Let’s just look at Greenpeace, formed in 71 in Canada by a group of activists. They protested about climate change, deforestation, overfishing, commercial whaling, genetic engineering, anti-war and anti-nuclear issues. Never far from news channels they fought and protested hard for their cause. They were fantastic, having a fleet of large boats to protest whaling and other marine interests till the Rainbow Warrior was sunk by French intelligence. A household name, oh boy yes. Again, here is a link to Wikipedia for Greenpeace: Greenpeace wiki this is not an article about organizations though. Activists oh yes, but now mmmmm no not at all and I wonder how many youngsters know the name Greenpeace. Let’s not think we have anything against Greenpeace because we don’t but maybe we are more for Extinction Rebellion these days which are Greenpeace reincarnated. Yes, that’s what they were like.

So, let’s get to the point with what are we? INS International is an activist group. This site was set up to challenge people we feel are not looking after the well-being of mental health sufferers both in business and government. We don’t publish our activities, but letters are sent to offenders stating laws and facts. Educating businesses on the treatment of people with mental health problems is our prime goal. Customer services putting phones down on people because their anxious talk fast or SLIGHTLY raise their voices is scandalous. We currently are trying to educate a few organizations on this point using research and the law. Yes, we write articles like every other informational charity or nonprofit organization, but we add non-topical issues that can help people like the article on recording a conversation on or off the phone using the law which staff at organizations just are misinformed. Like Greenpeace once there was a job to do, we are the same and have no front to lose like them. We do lots behind the scenes and will continue to do the things. All I can say no one hates an organization that ruffles feathers.

Finally, we have to be advocates too. Read the definition but we go way further so what are we finally:

    ACTIVISTS

  • New Telecommunications and Servers

Well, it’s upgrade time at INS.

Some of the old servers need replacing and software upgrading. Currently, the radio server is offline but tested. We have moved the server infrastructure from HP Gen7 servers to Gen9 machines. 3 servers 2 online and one standalone. Server1 the radio server will be upgraded in RAM to 40 GB to handle pressure with the Virtual DJ software. Server 2 will upgrade to 32GB of RAM. This machine will handle various websites and an upload facility, for user files with no bandwidth restrictions. Server 3 is the backup server on the network for files and software projects. We expect a little downtime in the coming weeks due to the upgrades and hope it won’t spoil the fun. All sites with stay online using our choice of hosting company. No downtime is expected here.

All telephones are due to be upgraded. We have decided to use a VOIP/SIP internal system. Hardware has been ordered and is due to be fitted to the network in April.

We have added a new number to the system for use immediately. Our London number is +44 0208 058 9281 for our main offices.

We will keep you informed of any changes as they happen.
